Eindhoven is a brainport and important economic engine for the Netherlands, as well as a progressive city in terms of sustainability and the environment. The challenge lies in the development of sustainable measures for the living and health of the inhabitants. Healthy air quality is one of the city’s key objectives.
The municipality of Eindhoven plays an important role in the realisation of the project Lungs of the City in terms of administrative support and embedding the project in the vision and plans for healthy urbanisation, liveability and sustainable mobility.
Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)
The Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is a research-driven university of international standing, where excellent research and education go hand in hand. TU/e specializes in engineering science & technology and is leading in high tech systems, data science, advanced materials and photonics. Our students collaborate with our researchers on innovative technological solutions for the grand societal challenges in renewable energy, health and smart mobility. That is why TU/e is the spot “where innovation starts.”
The TU/e is involved as a research institute in Lungs of the City. They are responsible for independent and scientific implementation of validation measurements and comparison with simulated data. The expertise of the TU/e-researchers lies mainly in physical aspects of the built environment with a focus on airflow simulations and diffusion models.
ENS Urban creates clean air in urban areas. The company is part of ENS Clean Air, a family-owned company specialising in the elimination of fine and ultrafine dust (PM10 – PM0.1). ENS is an expert in the field of air quality and has developed a sustainable, affordable and safe solution for capturing and eliminating air pollution. By applying this technology in the existing infrastructure and public space, the level of particulate matter in the city is reduced.
ENS Urban is the initiator of the Lungs of the City project. The objective of ENS Urban is to make clean air possible for everyone and to raise awareness about the fine dust problem. Lungs of the City is a first step towards a better and healthier living environment in urban areas.
